NAPS BACK IN FORM: The topically named Queens Visit landed Shamrock’s NAP on Thursday at evens. That makes it 7 winning naps from the last 11. Today, Shamrock tries to unravel the O’Brien sextet of runners in the Epsom Oaks.

Someone, sometime, somewhere said to me when a trainer has one runner in a Classic they fancy it. When they have two – one of them is a pacemaker. That’s all very well but what do you do when the same trainer has SIX ?

That’s Aidan O’Brien in todays Epsom Oaks who saddles six of the fourteen strong field including the favourite Maybe ridden by son Joseph.

Even if O’Brien’s approach can be accused of being scattergun, it’s a strategy that’s been far from scatterbrained in the past as we saw most recently at Newmarket with outside Homecoming Queen scorching home in the first fillies classic in England (Maybe back in third).

The dilemma is that the jockey bookings dictate the prices so much that you can end up getting bumper prices on horses that might be quite closely matched at home. Maybe is pretty short in the market and might well prove best of his six runners but after her defeat at Newmarket when 13/8 favourite – I’m not sure I want to be wading in again backing her as favourite, particularly as her Guineas form makes her closely matched with The Fugue who has won well at York since.

I’ll take a chance that Kissed maybe (small ‘m’) better than Maybe. Ryan Moore rides and Kissed still has a whole lot to prove in terms of ability at this level, distance and ground but has looked a hugely impressive prospect when winning two starts at Navan and at the odds, as always, I like the fact that I am getting around double the odds on Maybe on BETDAQ.

For the nap That Boy David sets a fair standard in the 8.35 at Down Royal. He looks best of those with form and the two debutants would have to be pretty good to stop him gaining a first success.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: That Boy David (8.35 Down Royal)
NEXT BEST: Kissed (4.05 Epsom)
