ROSCOMMON: Shamrock starts the new week with a look back on Fame And Glory’s win yesterday and has two bets in the first two races at Roscommon tonight including a win and place on a horse trading at around 10/1 in early exchanges on BETDAQ.

Well that didn’t got to plan. Fame And Glory drifted and had to work hard to make a winning return in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan yesterday but win he did and is now firmly on track to defend his crown in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot next month.

The 5-4 favourite got home by a neck with O’Brien junior not giving the six-year-old an unduly hard race on his first outing since October.

We move onto Roscommon on Monday where the O’Brien team combine in the opener with the frustrating Battle Of Saratoga who has the blinkers on for the first time. He is now six without a win and one to steer clear of.

The race could easily throw up a shock winner as they appear much of a muchness. Allowed showed promise on debut at the Curragh before finishing second to easy winner Show Court at Leopardstown. Good enough form in the context of this race but I prefer a win and place on Steel Toe Cap who was unconsidered at 33/1 at the Curragh earlier in the month but made an encouraging debut when fifth to Singing Bird. The fourth that day has run well since at since and against more fashionable yards here we are always going to be getting a good price.

Emotional Dream in the 6.00 is a filly who has had plenty of chances but has got some solid form and should get off the mark here. Chief market rival Sparkling View only looks modest and let supporters down last time out.

SHAMROCK’s BETS:
NAP: EMOTIONAL DREAM (6.00 Roscommon)
WIN AND PLACE: STEEL TOE CAP (5.30 Roscommon)
