GOWRAN GREEN LIGHT: The card at Gowran Park has passed  a morning inspection

The good news is that Gowran Park has been given the green light.

Persistent heavy rain had prompted the course to call an inspection after the going was changed from good to soft during Friday’s racing.

However, Cliff Noone, press officer for the Irish Turf Club, said on Saturday: “Following a course inspection by Turf Club Officials at Gowran Park this morning, the course was found to be fit for racing.

“The fixture scheduled for today will go ahead as planned. The ground is currently soft. ”

The star name on the card is sportingbet.com Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Sizing Europe, who takes on four rivals in the Grade 2 PricewaterhouseCoopers Champion Chase.

Trainer Henry de Bromhead feels Saturday’s 2m4f Grade 2 is “a nice starting point” for his stable star and has no concerns about the going for the nine-year-old.

Sizing is currently around 1.87 on BETDAQ which looks about right but doesn’t tempt me as a bet more a watch to watch and get clues on for the future.

The bet on the card is Westmeath in the beginners chase at 4.40.

He was much better class than these over hurdles and also showed a real liking for testing ground. His ability to jump the larger obstacles has to be taken on trust but with a clear round I can’t see defeat in a race that has cut up with non runners.
