THEY WON’T BEAT OUR CHAMPION, SAYS SHAMROCK: Our man is confident of an Irish success in the Tingle Creek and he also has 10.0 about a horse with the rare ability to jump Aintree’s National fences.
HE LAYS THE BIG DRIFTER: Dhaular Dhar travelled all right at Dundalk last night.. he travelled out to 14-1 in the market and flopped! Were you on early when Shamrock made the horse a lay?
1.20 Fairyhouse Though this is a handicap and only a Grade B, Solwhit and Thousand Stars have won the last two runnings.
They were absolutely thrown in with hindsight, off 10st and 10st 6lb respectively. But this year there seems to be nothing similar lurking down the bottom of the handicap.
In fact, I can’t see past the top weight, Staying Article, who has a right to be there, as one with a touch of class, reckoned sure to go places. Edward O’Grady is enjoying a revival just now and this one is a nice enough price at offers around 5.7 this morning.
Inspector Clouseau has some fine form in big races but, like his eponymous antihero, seems to bungle it at the business end, as form figures of 203232 suggest. Montan is also a bridesmaid.
2.10 Aintree We have three representatives for Ireland in the Becher Chase: Merchent Paddy doesn’t stand much training but Dessie Hughes could get a downpour to set conditions right for Rare Bob.
Another Palm is only six but with that ‘stays forever’ look to him, though you just wonder if his first-time-blinkered second in the Cork National can be repeated; sometimes the blinds don’t work next time out.
But he hadn’t been finding much of the bridle, so it’s to be hoped they do. The rest is down to the law of those big fences.
Rare Bob has already been placed over them, rain is forecast and Dessie Hughes won this back to back with Vic Venturi and Black Apalachi. Worth more than a bob at 10.0 on Betdaq this morning.
2.25 Fairyhouse Another Grade B handicap, this time for chasers, but again with an Edward O’Grady runner in the spotlight: Out Now has won at 2m 1f and won at 2m 4f, each time suggesting maturity and jumping agility at a young age.
Majestic Oak, Gentle Alice and Saludos came back with placed efforts but for Gentle Alice it was because fallers let her through. Majestic Oak and Saludos will love the ground but Out Now has the stamina to boss them at this trip.
3.00 Fairyhouse The unbeaten Martin Pipe Hurdle winner Sir Des Champs should take this in his stride, granted a clear round on his chasing debut. Banker for your Multiples.
3.05 Sandown Sizing Europe is the champion! The Queen Mother winner can return the Tingle Creek trophy to us for the first time since Moscow Flyer (2003-4); a little matter of Kauto Star, then Master Minded, got in the way since.
But I feel that Kauto Stone has it in name but not in nature and it’s Wishful Thinking that our man will get beat today.
