SAME AGAIN SIMENON: Whilst Black Caviar will grab the headlines on the final day of Royal Ascot it’s the marathon runners that attract Shamrock’s interest and Willie Mullins bids for a Royal Ascot double this week – with the same horse!

The closing Queen Alexandra Stakes is run over a freakish distance – 2m 5f 159 yards and on the prevailing ground stamina is essential.

There shouldn’t be any problems in that department for the Willie Mullins trained Simenon who romped to success here on Tuesday in the (slightly) shorter Ascot Stakes. That was over 2m 4f but the way he stayed on to beat Al Khawaneej by six lengths says this distance will be just as ideal.

He didn’t even seem to have a a hard race on Tuesday and as he goes unpenalised here for that success, there must be every chance he can send the Irish home smiling on the final day.

Aidan O’Brien saddles Memphis Tennessee in the Hardwicke Stakes at 3.05 but the way Gosden and Buick were knocking in the winners yesterday makes me mightily afraid of Aiken.

At Down Royal it’s the Ulster Derby at 3.50 and I like top weight Royal Diamond who might just outclass these despite his weight burden.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Simenon (5.35 Royal Ascot)
NEXT BEST: Royal Diamond (3.50 Down Royal)
