GALWAY FINAL DAY: It’s the seventh and final day of the Galway Festival today and there’s good news from Cork following an inspection.

Cork goes ahead today after an inspection. Although the round course has improved sufficiently for racing to go ahead, the sprint track remains unfit and the card has been reduced from eight to seven races.

Explaining the changes, Turf Club press officer Cliff Noone said: “Racing goes ahead. “The round course is fit for racing, but the sprint track is unfit for racing.”

As a result, they have cancelled the five-furlong race (Mallow Apprentice Handicap) and the two six-furlong races will be moved from the sprint course to the round course.

There are now seven races rather than eight and the first race has gone forward half an hour and is due off at 2.25pm. The ground is soft to heavy.

Sapphire for Dermot Weld looks a banker in the featured Give Thanks Stakes.

Over at Galway it’s the final day of the Festival and Supernovae can give Dermot Weld yet another winner.

Rock Critic (4/7) gave us a winning nap on Saturday with an effortless success in the opener and the banker today has to be Supernovae who shaped with considerable promise on her racecourse debut at Fairyhouse when third to Dane Street in a big field maiden.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Supernovae (5.30 Galway)
NEXT BEST: Sapphire (4.05 Cork)
