GROUP 3 ACTION AT GOWRAN PARK: The ground is Good, Good to Soft in places.
The feature race on Sunday’s mixed card at Gowran Park is the Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes (Group 3) at 3.45.
It’s a decent field but the lightly raced filly, Caponata, from Dermot Weld’s yard stands out.
She handles cut in the ground and won her debut race at Gowran Park before following up with a smooth success in the Naas Oaks Trial in June.
She has finished second in her two subsequent starts but has certainly performed with credit in both races which were at Group level.
She was only pipped on the line in the Group 2 Blandford Stakes at the Curragh last time out by Up. That was a great effort and back at Group 3 level here she should make no mistakes.
She still has scope for further improvement, a comment which is less so for her more experienced rivals.
