EARLY START AT NAVAN: Shamrock heads to Navan on Wednesday with a current NAPS sequence of four winners from his last five naps.

I didn’t quite do a ‘Daqman’ yesterday, knocking in winners left, right and centre including a 16/1 shot, but played safe with Waaheb at Fairyhouse who won easily at 8/13 to make it four winning naps from the last five.

There was a lot to like about Dermot Weld’s hurdling debutant who had shown enormous potential in four bumper starts, winning three of them. However, he had been off the track for over 500 days and there were questions to be asked.

He travelled well, jumped well and above all showed great acceleration to win by 6 1/2 lengths. The key to him really is the ground and he is sure to be heading to the big races provided there is give in the ground.

Weld said after the race: “That was very satisfactory, he still has a lot to learn. He was a bit novicey early but his jumping improved as the race progressed.”

“We’ll look for a novice but could wait until Christmas as we’re not in any hurry with him. He’s a talented horse with a lot of class.”

The Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival could well be his main target.

I don’t really fancy too much at Navan today. Apologies for the price, but Morga looks to have a simple task in the 3.10. Jim Bolger’s filly looks head and shoulders above her rivals.

I’d rather tip a winner than guess a potential loser on a tricky card and with a naps sequence building up again will play the ‘safe card’ today. BETDAQ price of around 1.30 actually seems fair enough given her form chance.
