5/4 WINNING NAP: SHAMROCK’S NAP and only bet on Friday BARRA won at Kilbeggan last night at 5/4.

A smooth win for the nap Barra last night on her first start over the larger obstacles. She jumped well and pulled clear for an eight length success.

Back to the flat on Saturday and all eyes at the Curragh for the Darley Irish Oaks at 5.30pm.

Aidan O’Brien hasn’t dominated this Classic as much as some of the others which gives some of the other trainers hope. English trainers have won two of the last three with Enable (John Gosden) last year and Covert Love (Hugo Palmer) in 2015.

The fast improving Sea Of Class must have a good chance of taking the prize back over the Irish Sea for William Haggas but as good as she has looked when winning her last two starts they did come in Listed company and she will need improve again to take this.

The official ratings say she has 9lb to find with Forever Together who bids to repeat her Epsom Oaks success – she was impressive in Surrey but on soft ground and was much less convincing in the Pretty Polly Stakes (good to firm) the last day when an odds-on second to Urban Fox (also trained by Haggas).

I think Forever Together might be better with give, so a safer proposition might be Magic Wand who was hugely impressive when winning the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot and can turn around Epsom Oaks form with her stable companion on the better surface.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Magic Wand (5.30 Curragh)
