CREST OF A WAVE: SHAMROCK’S NAP on Saturday runs in the beginners chase at Navan at 4.35pm.

Gordon Elliott did the column a favour on Thursday with a winning nap – General Principle at Limerick.

I turn again to the Elliott stable with Crest in the beginners chase at Navan this afternoon.

The six-year-old has been running well without success so far over fences and went closest yet when finishing a two length second to Bright Tomorrow at Down Royal. He finished 31 lengths clear of the third horse.

This doesn’t look a strong contest and Crest looks to have achieved the most and will handle this forecast heavy ground well.

Balbir Du Mathan (formerly trained by Gordon Elliott) fell on his chasing debut and was beaten 42 lengths when an odds-on favourite at Fairyhouse. He was highly tried last time out – contesting the Kim Muir at Cheltenham where he was pulled up.

He still looks the danger – despite a profile which looks overall underachieving.
