THE AFTERNOON AFTER THE AFTERNOON BEFORE: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the Curragh this afternoon and Team O’Brien’s chances in the big race.

I was right with O’Brien but comprehensively wrong in opposing Australia.

The 2000 Guineas form from Newmarket is exceptionally strong as colleague DAQMAN has summarised today.

The win completed a hat-trick in the race for Aidan O’Brien after Camelot and Ruler Of The World and both the trainer and jockey Joseph believe he’s the ‘best yet’.

That was dismissed as simply hype in some quarters before the race but actions speak louder than words and what we saw yesterday was a very impressive winner on the Downs given a brilliant ride from Joseph O’Brien who was much more emotional than normal after the win.

He said: “I had a grand position and was going very easily coming down hill, nearly too easy. I got there a bit too soon, I was cantering all the way – I got there too soon but I had to stay going when I did. Horses don’t come easier to ride than this fellow – he’s the best (I’ve ridden).”

The O’Brien’s team up with El Salvador who should be much better suited by this trip having floundered over two miles in testing ground at Sandown last time out. I’m not that keen on his overall profile though.

I’m sticking with Parish Hall who ran a cracker in the Mooresbridge Stakes over course and distance (a Group 3) and made the long odds on Magician pull out all the stops.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Parish Hall (3.40 Curragh)
