3:05 Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 11 runners)
A competitive race, as indeed it should be for the €59k first prize. Willie Mullins usually excels in these mares only races and he saddles a quartet of runners with Ruby Walsh onboard Asthuria who arrives from France with two runs on the flat but hasn’t raced for nearly 400 days. Jessber’s Dream is a highly dangerous raider from the UK. She deserves to take her chance at the top level having made all the running to win a Grade 2 at Sandown last time out.
4:15 Ryanair Gold Cup Novice Chase (Grade 1) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 6 runners)
Nothing went much right for Outlander in the JLT at Cheltenham, he was hampered at the start by the antics of Zabana who whipped round and failed to race. Outlander was still very much in contention before falling four out and gets the chance to resume his winning ways here. But he may have a tough nut to crack with Kylemore Lough who didn’t go to Cheltenham so will come here a little fresher and represents the stable of Kerry Lee who have excelled this season. Kylemore Lough jumped well to make all the running to win the Special Cargo at Sandown last time out and confirm official superiority over Outlander (he is rated 5lb better).
