KILBEGGAN and LISTOWEL on SUNDAY: Two Irish cards taking place on Sunday afternoon. SHAMROCK is concentrating on the flat action at Listowel for his best bets of the day.

It’s impossible to recommend a bet in, but the opener at Listowel on Sunday should be an interesting race with several well-bred newcomers from the top stables entered. Homeland, a son of Galileo, is currently heading the BETDAQ market at around 1.61 and is trained by Aidan O’Brien.

A couple of long term maidens are likely to fight out the finish of the 2.40. Regular readers will know that long term maidens are horses I tend to stay clear of as they can usually remain maidens for longer than my bank roll will extend to !

However, sometimes needs must and this should be between Wateed (7 starts) who locks horns with Intense Debate (5 starts).

Wateed continues to frustrate – he has been tried in a visor, blinkers and is now stepped up in trip, despite having a sprinting pedigree.

Preference has to be for Intense Debate who is no world beater but she has at least been tried over this mile trip and there were excuses for her Ballinrobe defeat last time when she was blocked in her run on a couple of occasions. She is rated 2lb better than Wateed on official ratings and gets the 5lb fillies allowance on top so has something up her sleeve.

NAP: Intense Debate (2.40 Listowel)
