SHAMROCK ON SUNDAY: SHAMROCK heads racing to Navan on Sunday for their two big races having landed a winning NAP on Saturday.
The NAP was landed yesterday !!
I can’t ever remember napping a double but such was the restrictive prices of Tell Us More and Faugheen that it seemed the only sensible option.
It was still only a 1.53 winner but we didn’t really have any moments of anxiety.
Expensive recruit, Tell Us More, made all the running to hack up at Gowran Park on his hurdling debut.
He consolidated his prominent positions in the Supreme, Neptune and Albert Bartlett ante-post markets.
Faugheen is now unbeaten in seven starts and made just about all the running under Ruby Walsh to win at Ascot. He was the 1/4 favourite and put in his best jump at the final flight to make certain of the win.
A big day of Irish racing on Sunday with two featured races at Navan on expected yielding to soft ground.
12:55 ‘Monksfield’ Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 7 runners)
This looks competitive (perhaps because Willie Mullins DOESN’T have a runner!). I napped Free Expression when he won his maiden hurdle at Naas earlier in the month and am sticking with him again as he steps up in class and distance. Martello Tower might be vulnerable under a penalty for his Grade 3 win at Cork last time out.
2:25 Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase (0-150) (Grade B) (4yo+, 3m, 27 runners)
A traditionally tough punting heat, won by the late Dessie Hughes with Tofino Bay in 2012. Nearly Nama’d would be a poignant winner for the Hughes stable this year and he certainly looks to hold place claims. Preference is for Rogue Angel who ran himself back into form with a good effort at Galway last time out.
