Free Expression, my Saturday NAP and ONLY BET WON at 11/10 on Saturday. Despite a field of 25 runners he was hammered in the market from a morning 3.45 on BETDAQ but the confidence was rewarded with a smooth 4 and half length win.
Three big races at Navan today:
12:50 ‘For Auction’ Novice Hurdle (Grade 3) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 5 runners)
A small field of five but competitive with the possible exception of Space Ship. I’m taking a chance with Mckinley who was by no means disgraced when taking a step up in class to contest a Grade C handicap hurdle at Listowel last time out. He finished fourth to Orgilgo Bay that day and still looks capable of further improvement. The obvious danger is Princely Conn.
1:20 Ladbrokes Ireland Lismullen Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 4 runners)
Zaidpour almost picks himself here by virtue of how the race has disappointingly cut up. He’s plenty in hand on official ratings. I can’t really be backing him at odds-on though today given how expensive he has been for punters to follow. Since last year he has tasted defeat at 1/2, 4/6, 11/10 and 5/4 and this race has a poor record for market leaders anyway. A small bet on Darwins Fox is recommended.
2:25 Ladbrokes Ireland Fortria Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m, 7 runners)
Big Zeb and Flemenstar have monopolised this winning the last five renewals between them when they started favourite for each of their respective wins. We’re guaranteed a new name on the roll of honour this year and that might well be Days Hotel who is back from a break after a disappointing run in the Melling Chase at the Grand National meeting. Going, distance are in his favour and he has already won four times at this level.
