GROUP 1 ACTION AT THE CURRAGH: Another superb day of racing with three Group 1’s at the Curragh including the Irish St Leger. Just like last year, SHAMROCK is expecting the day to be about Aidan O’Brien.

Two winners yesterday but the NAP Douglas Macarthur ran poorly behind Landfall – the 9/1 winner – who I gave an honourable mention to.

Managed to get something back on the day with Zhukova WON 11/4 and Almanzor WON 7/1 in the Irish Champion Stakes but only recommended that one on the place market.

The incredible weekend of Irish racing continues at the Curragh on Sunday with three Group 1 races on the card.

3:40 Moyglare Stud Stakes (Fillies’ Group 1) (2yo, Class 1, 7f, 7 runners)

Aidan O’Brien has four of the seven runners here in his attempt to follow up Minding’s win in the race last year. Jockey bookings suggest that the unbeaten Promise To Be True is the main hope. Ryan Moore is aboard the unbeaten filly who won at Tipperary on debut and then followed up with a nice Group 3 win at Leopardstown. She might well improve again but at this stage I prefer the form of her stable companion Rhododendron who has achieved a little more in that she won a Group 2 here at the Curragh last time out when she beat stable companion Hydrangea in a tight finish.

4:15 Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes (Group 1) (2yo, Class 1, 7f, 7 runners)

Churchill has been a big talking horse since his debut here in May and has improved with each start. He has won his last three starts including over course and distance last time out in the Futurity Stakes when going off a 1/4 chance. Mehmas has solid form and is stepping up in trip but the vote has to go to Churchill.

4:50 Palmerstown House Estate Irish St. Leger (Group 1) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m 6f, 6 runners)

Order Of St George won this by 11 lengths last season at 5/4. Expect the same kind of result today but swap the 5/4 to around 1/7. His unbeaten run since last year’s race has seen him win the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and is impossible to oppose here.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Rhododendron (3.40 Curragh)
NEXT BEST: Churchill (4.15 Curragh)
TREBLE: Order Of St George (4.50 Curragh)
