CORK AND FAIRYHOUSE: Flat and jumps action today with a Listed race at Cork and some top class graded action from Fairyhouse. SHAMROCK’s Sunday NAP runs at Fairyhouse.

I’m starting with the flat action at Cork.

2:55 Cork Stakes (Listed) (3yo+, Class 1, 6f, 10 runners)

This looks a really weak renewal unfortunately. Maarek definitely has the class to win this. He won a Listed race on debut last season and went on to win the Prix De L’Abbaye at Longchamp but this is his first start for a new stable and this tempers my enthusiasm coupled with his Group 1 win penalty. I like the chances of Remember You at around 5 in the BETDAQ place market. She was well beaten in the 1000 Guineas trial at Leopardstown but that recent spin could just give her a fitness edge and it’s a drop back from Group 3 to Listed so she’s entitled to get more involved.

And now to the jumps at Fairyhouse….

2:10 Normans Grove Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 1f, 5 runners)

Arvika Ligeonniere will romp this if reproducing even his ‘normal’ form but I can’t be playing at 1.4 after he pulled up in the Champion Chase having made a bad mistake. Willie Mullins has three of the five runners and Twinlight is only 7lb behind his odds-on stablemate, so if there are any lingering weaknesses with Arvika, he might not be that far behind.

2:40 Clarion Hotel Liffey Valley Novice Handicap Chase (Grade B) (5yo+, 2m 1f, 13 runners)

Nearest The Pin ran a cracker at Kempton when second in the Kempton Park Betdaq Silver Bowl and can again get into the places at decent odds here despite top weight.

3:15 Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 8 runners)

The Willie Mullins trained Florishwells D’ete clearly has plenty of potential having won well at Gowran Park but might struggle against the more experienced Layla Joan who only got as far as the first flight before unseating her rider at Doncaster but had previously won all three of her previous starts with the minimum of fuss and is surely worth another chance here.

3:50 Coolmore N.H. Sires Fame And Glory & Sans Frontieres Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 13 runners)

Le Vent D’Antan was well fancied for the Cheltenham Festival Bumper last season but could never really get competitive in seventh. He had previously made a hugely impressive debut at Leopardstown and has been placed in three efforts since, including a confidence boosting win at Navan last time and has place chances here.

4:20 Rathbarry & Glenview Studs Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 9 runners)

Wicklow Brave won five on the spin before finishing sixth to highly talented stablemate Vautour in the Supreme. The runner-up Josses Hill has already paid a massive complement to that form by winning well at Aintree this week and Wicklow Brave can get back on the winning run here.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Layla Joan (3.15 Fairyhouse)
NEXT BEST: Wicklow Brave (3.50 Fairyhouse)
PLACE: Remember You (2.55 Cork)
PLACE: Nearest The Pin (2.40 Fairyhouse)
