SHAMROCK ON THE BEACH: For Laytown’s annual meeting on the sand today. His best bet runs in the maiden at 3.40.

There was me speculating a week or so back about the prospect of a second all-weather track in Ireland that I forgot to mention there already is one – the original one !!

Laytown stage their annual meeting today on the sands – the 147th running of the event which started in 1868 !!

The races are all over a mix of six and seven furlongs and the six race card gets underway when the tide goes out at 2.35.

The track usually attracts a crowd of around 5,000 and with Joseph O’Brien riding this year there’s some added prestige.

Best bet on the card could well be Al Fahidi in the 7f maiden at 3.40. Cairdin is best in on the figures but this trip looks far too short.

Al Fahidi has been running consistently well and this really does look a weak event. The form of her Killarney handicap second over a mile should easily prove strong enough.

NAP: Al Fahidi (3.40 Laytown)
