THURLES ON THURSDAY: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the Ladbrokes Ireland Kinloch Brae Chase (Grade 3) at Thurles on Thursday.

The Ladbrokes Ireland Kinloch Brae Chase (Grade 3) is the highlight of a busy eight race card at Thurles on Thursday.

Don Cossack has won the last two renewals but is now retired after a recurrence of a tendon injury.

Although a six horse race it doesn’t take too long to eliminate Boxing Along and Letter Of Credit from calculations who both look outclassed but there’s prize money down to sixth and connections will cover costs as a minimum so are free-rolling.

It leaves a very competitive four runner field headed on the ratings and the BETDAQ market by Sub Lieutenant who was a very creditable third behind Djakadam in the Grade 1 John Durkan at Punchestown last time out. Another of today’s rivals, Black Hercules, was well behind in fifth and last spot that day.

Any horse who finishes second to Douvan on FIVE occasions surely deserves to pick up a big prize in his own right and Sizing John looks the biggest danger. The question mark though is that the majority of his form has come over the minimum two mile trip.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Sub Lieutenant (2.15 Thurles)
