SUMMER IS HERE: There’s no ‘heavy’ in the going description at Thurles this afternoon. It’s good to yielding for the seven race card which gets underway at 2.15pm.

The 4.30 at Thurles this afternoon won’t win any awards for the most imaginative race title… the “Thurles Racecourse Hurdle” but it’s an interesting race which looks a match-up between the Willie Mullins trained pair Mikael D’haguenet and Mourad.

There’s a line of form from Navan in 2012 in the Ladbrokes Boyne Hurdle (Grade 2) where Mourad upset the odds to beat Mikael D’haguenet by six and a half lengths and gave him 2lb too.

Mourad is also rated 7lb better than Mikael D’haguenet on official ratings.

However there are dangers in taking that too much at face value.

On the above evidence you would expect Mourad to be favourite on BETDAQ but Mikael D’haguenet is, and rightly so.

Mikael D’haguenet did run an absolute cracker when third to Hurricane Fly (sent off at 1/16) in the Grade 1 Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown but that form undoubtedly flatters him.

However, it’s a lot more encouraging than Mourad’s recent efforts which have been dismal and he was beaten a very long way at Naas in January.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Mikael D’haguenet (4.30 Thurles)
