THYESTES DAY AT GOWRAN PARK: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the featured Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase at Gowran Park this afternoon with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

The Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase at Gowran this afternoon sees all 18 runners stand their ground in a traditionally wide open puzzle for punters.

Willie Mullins has won three of the last five renewals and will rely solely on Pleasant Company this afternoon as his two reserve runners have missed the cut.

Pleasant Company won a similar competitive handicap last time out at Punchestown justifying 4/1 favouritism but is up 9lb in the weights today for what was quite a narrow win and faces faster ground on his first race for 271 days. Pleasant Company’s main target is believed to be the Grand National.

I think the Tom Taaffe trained Rogue Trader looks interesting off his low weight. He did well to finish fifth in the competitive PP Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas – recovering from a dreadful error at the 9th. He would have finished a lot closer but for that error and undoubtedly have gone up in the weights. As it is, the handicapper has kept him off the same mark and he appeals as a win and place NAP option.

Mystic Theatre landed the NAP yesterday at short odds (2/5) when making a winning debut under Rules in the closing mares bumper at Fairyhouse.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
