DAY 1 CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the first day of the Cheltenham Festival with a recommended bet.

It’s finally here – and although it will be very different from normal – that hasn’t stopped the goosebumps for me.

There’s plenty of expectation on the Irish trained runners with the trophy engraver seemingly already starting his work on the Prestbury Cup but as every owner, trainer, jockey and punter will tell you – it’s never that easy to find winners at Cheltenham and nothing can ever be taken for granted.

In today’s feature Champion Hurdle I’ve missed the boat with the price on the superb mare Honeysuckle. She’s been backed off the (virtual) boards this morning and don’t forget it’s CHELTENHAM 0% COMMISSSION ON BETDAQ all this week on BETDAQ !

She brings the perfect 10/10 record into the race and has (now) got her ground.  In what doesn’t look a vintage renewal she should prove hard to beat again under Rachael Blackmore.

There’s a strong UK challenge headed by another mare Epatante but you have to be slightly concerned by her defeat (at 1/5) over Christmas.

It’s so good to see Goshen back to form after his heartache of 12 months ago and the change in ground will also help his chances.

A fantastic race in prospect but it’s Honeysuckle to blossom again.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Honeysuckle (3.05 Cheltenham)
