PUNCHESTOWN GREEN LIGHT: Punchestown’s Grand National Trial meeting finally gets the go-ahead on Tuesday having twice been cancelled.

Good news is that Punchestown’s Grand National Trial card finally gets the thumbs up today at the third attempt !!

The big race looks as trappy, as always, and I prefer the slimmer pickings off Lord Royal in the Grade 3 Surehaul Mercedes-Benz Novice Hurdle at 3.20.

We won’t be getting too rich on the Willie Mullins trained runner but there was plenty to like about his debut at Clonmel and the cliche ‘could be anything’ really does apply to this exciting five-year-old who holds entries for both the Ballymore and the Albert Bartlett.

He was never out of second gear when winning at Clonmel – finishing 33 lengths clear with the distances further back being 13 and 31 lengths !!

His jumping wasn’t perfect by any means but the raw talent is there and he should be able to see off the challenge of multiple winner Floueur who would possibly be odds-on himself for this but for the presence of Lord Royal.

He is progressive, loves the ground and bids for a four-rimer but is up significantly in trip.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
