PUNCHESTOWN ON WEDNESDAY: The jumps action cranks up another gear on Wednesday with Punchestown’s opening meeting of the season.

Punchestown is back !!! It’s the opening meeting of the new season and the taps have been on.

The going is good (good to firm in places) but we have photograph evidence of the watering in this pic tweeted by the course yesterday.

It’s pretty rare to see ‘firm’ in any Punchestown going description so it’s the chance for the faster ground preferenced horses to excel.

One Cool Poet is an interesting jumping debutante for Arthur Moore in the opener. He certainly handled the faster ground on the flat and was a winner of a Limerick handicap on good to firm ground. This might not take much winning and he could easily be good enough to make a winning start.

I had added Modem to my selections, however, the race is now down to just two runners with the defection of Identity Thief. I’ve decided to avoid the race now as Modem is extremely short in the match race.
