Our intrepid BETDAQ PUNTER was in form again last week and he was also in Singapore for their big meeting last Sunday.
So how did his punting week fare – on both sides of the world ?
Friday
The wonders of modern technology continue to amaze me as I wander round Singapore with my tablet, free wi fi everywhere, and full access to my beloved BETDAQ via the app – what more could any punter ever ask for? As an attempt at looking a little more organised than I actually am, I thought I would try and stick to just the one betting concept this week (other than the usual odds and sods that is), and I decided to join the dark side – and become a layer for a change. My principle was as simple as I am – lay all horses at evens or less in races up to and including seven furlongs or over jumps. The idea is that a bump or bad draw can ruin the favourite’s chance over shorter distances, ditto a bad leap or fellow faller over jumps, but only time will tell how I get on! Just the three qualifiers in the end saw me set off on my profit quest to pretty small stakes to see two losers (Oriel 1.6 and Rumbury Grey 2.0) and one winner (Justice Day 1.4) and a pretty easy profit to be honest – though somehow I will be surprised if that sort of luck can last and suspect I may need to add a staking plan as a contingency!
Saturday
Having used some of yesterdays laying profits to increase the size of my bets on Dundonnell at Newmarket (hacked up with a BETDAQ price of 3.05) and Bradford who won 3-0 at BETDAQ odds of 2.6, I really thought I was walking on water, needing a calculator to count my profits. Expecting a long list of odds on lays, I was disappointed to only come up with the two, but as they both lost the smile stayed on my face long term as Tomintoul Magic (unplaced 2.0) and Letsby Avenue (second 1.65) made me wonder for the hundredth time in my punting life whether I have found the holy grail of betting systems?
Sunday
Pride comes before a fall is not my favourite saying but is certainly correct after today! Brentford took a hiding and cost me more than I care to admit in the play offs, while anyone who can explain how Manchester United threw away leads of 0-3, 2-4, and 2-5 to draw with West Bromwich Albion is beyond me, and also brought me crashing down to earth. I did a lot better with the horses here in Singapore though, laying the ante post favourite from a bad draw at odds of 4.0 (small stakes though, I had hoped for a shorter price), but I also confess I backed Balmont Mast each way at 19.0 the win and 4.5 the place on BETDAQ only to see him run in to fourth, one position out of the money. I did have a sizeable bet on Singapore Airlines International winner Military Attack (pictured) at BETDAQ odds of 3.6 and how he did not go off favourite in the UK is totally beyond me as he was the only horse they were backing here? As for my new systems, I am beginning to wish I had kept it quiet as Daliance was only second at BETDAQ odds of 1.35, and was the only lay bet of the day.
Monday
With the football season now over as far as the Premier league is concerned and the long journey home ahead of me my new found racing road to riches will do for me as I refuse to pay the wi fi costs on board the plane (tight wad as I am). Losers at 2.0, 1.18, 1.3, were followed by winners at 2.0, 1,75, and 1.55 for an overall profit (all be it a small one!), and the chance to try it all again tomorrow. I did cheekily add one Basketball game overnight when I went jolly backing once again and as the Grizzlies held off the Spurs at BETDAQ odds of 1.45, I added more money to the account and I am making the most of a short lucky period.
Tuesday

The horses did not go completely my way with winners at 1.65, 1.28, and 1.22 balanced out with losers at 1.66, 1.55 to still give me a profit, just less than I was hoping for (greedy?). Football is already getting to me and I will start to have a look at what tournaments are around shortly – thank heaven we have some friendlies coming up to bet on before I suffer withdrawal symptoms.
Wednesday
1.22 about the Miami Heat to beat the Indiana Pacers did not appeal so I left that one alone and added a few bets on the Tennis from Germany though as I am even more ignorant about the tennis once again its favourites time for me. Eight matches meant eight points staked (no need to be overly risky at short prices), and saw winners at odds of 1.05, 1.6, 1.45, 1.18, and four losers did not put me in a very good mood – maybe my luck has already turned for the worse? As for the horses (same rules as above), winners at 1.5, 1.45, and 1.3 were balanced with losers at 1.99 and 2.0 for another small profit – but am I brave enough to raise the stakes tomorrow to make it all worthwhile?
Thursday
I am already fed up with tennis so have scrapped around looking for something even more obscure to waste my money on. European football caught my eye as I ran down the BETDAQ menus (plenty to pick from), and as it was only a bit of fun, the first four games looked as good as any for win bets on the favourites IF they were the home team. To my amusement (but not the spellcheckers), I ended up with win bets on FC Vikingit (2.25) to beat FC Ilves, RoPS (2.53) to beat Inter Turku, HJK Helsinki (1.49) to beat Vaasa Ps and JJK (2.33) to beat Kuopio PS, all in Finland apparently! A loser was followed by a 2.53 winner, then an odds on loser, and a draw (so another loser), and by now I wish I hadn’t bothered! The horses were pretty mundane with winners at BETDAQ odds of 1.75 and 2.0, as well as losers at odds of 2.0, so not the best day at the office overall.
Conclusions:
Bet of the week – Military Attack at Singapore – a decent sized chunk because I was there and a decent price taken on BETDAQ (4.0) as well.
Disaster of the week – Disaster of the week – West Bromwich Albion – how did they come back from the dead to draw 5-5 with Manchester United and ruin my main bet?
Something for the weekend:
Horse racing first and football later this weekend with all the leagues completed and that nagging itch you just cant scratch with zero premiership action for months now. The most interesting horse on show for me at least has to be the unbeaten three year old Reckless Abandon, a three year old son of Exchange Rate who has avoided the classic pitfall of so many others in their three year olds careers as connections have clearly decided he is a sprinter through and through. Two Group Twos added to a pair of Group Ones show that he is no mug and it will be interesting to see if her has trained on or not – well worth a point to find out at BETDAQ odds around the 3/1 mark in my book. If I have another bet it will be another small one (why give it back to the layers is my new motto), and I am still convinced Sir Michael Stoute is in for a decent season. Enobled won nicely at Goodwood earlier this month and I am hopeful he can follow up in the Haydock handicap at 6.00pm though top weight does look a trifle harsh.
The football looks interesting Monday night when Watford take on Crystal Palace when I fully expect the first named to come pout on top. Palace upped their game against dreaded rivals Brighton but may have taken too much out of themselves that day and although I suspect either team will only stay in the top league for a season, it does look as if Watford are destined to get there this time around.
