As calmness descends over Cleeve Hill for the final time this week, we can do nothing but look forward to the greatest National Hunt racing Festival in the World.

Four days of action packed racing with many of the biggest equine and human names in Jump racing with the added bonus of the possibility of history being made by a certain mare on Tuesday.

The calm will turn to a roar that can heard for miles when the tapes go up at 1.30pm on Tuesday for the Supreme Novice Hurdle, and it will be wall to wall action at Cheltenham until the quiet will once again reign in the Cotswolds at about 5.20pm on Friday after the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual.

Horses from all across the UK, Ireland and France will make the trip to Cheltenham hoping for one thing, and one thing only, to become part of racing folklore with a winner on the biggest stage in National Hunt Racing.

Four Championship races, a host of other Grade 1’s at varying distances, the stars of the future in the Novice races and the Bumper, the best of the Handicappers and the very popular Cross Country race provide the spectacle for punters to place their money.

It’s the most anticipated and talked race meeting of the year and with all eyes firmly fixed on Cheltenham. Jockeys, Trainers, Owners and of course the horses, become the most famous sports stars making the headlines in so many of the major publications.

Cheltenham has something a little different compared to other similar Festivals. The meeting is steeped in history and provides the yardstick that will tell Trainers and Owners who are dreaming of glory, whether or not their horses are good enough. Cheltenham is where everyone wants to be and nothing but first will do.

The glitz and the glamour is all part of the meeting but with a tremendously down to earth feeling about it. The crowds will gather from early morning to get their place in the stands or by the parade ring in order to cheer home their equine Heroes.

The pace of the races, the hustle and bustle on the track, hoping your horse gets the gap coming the final fence to come up the hill with a flourish. It’s all part of what the Cheltenham Festival is about.

The thrill of winning, the despair of losing. Just getting touched off on the line or just getting your head in front on the line, the Cheltenham Festival gives no quarter and the smallest of margins can mean the difference between glory and defeat.

For those who are lucky enough to get their head in front on the line, they will be greeted in with rapturous applause like nothing else. Those filling the minor places will be applauded for their efforts in a uniform feeling of support to those putting themselves on the line.

Past Champions will defend their titles while the young pretenders attempt to steal it from their grasp. Hurricane Fly, Sizing Europe, Big Buck’s and Bobs Worth will be all out to retain or regain their titles in the Championship races; each one has several breathing down their neck to take it from them.

Its four days of the best jump racing. It’s the four days we have been waiting 12 months for.

The excitement is building. The battles are about to commence. The roar will be deafening. It’s time for the Cheltenham Festival.
