THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Wednesday’s Big Bash match between Perth Scorchers v Hobart Hurricanes with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Perth Scorchers v Hobart Hurricanes

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re in the final stages of the Big Bash Group stage, and now the pressure is on sides! Perth Scorchers host Hobart Hurricanes on Wednesday morning on Betdaq Betting Exchange as they sit top of the table, but it’s a different story for Hobart Hurricanes as they battle for a playoff place. On the face of things, after Monday’s game Hobart Hurricanes had the same amount of points as Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder but they had a game in hand. The bad news for Hurricanes fans is that “game in hand” is against the best team in the tournament.

Hobart Hurricanes did manage to beat the Perth Scorchers towards the start of the tournament though – one of only three losses for Perth so far. They recorded a massive win at the weekend over Sydney Thunder who will go right to the wire with them for a playoff spot, and in general they have been playing good cricket. Whether or not that’s good enough to beat Perth with home advantage is another question. Perth have a very settled side where everyone knows and plays their role well. Their bowling is always excellent, and when their batting fires they are very tough to beat.

The batting didn’t fire the weekend however as they failed to chase down 151/5 from Sydney Sixers, the Hobart will take heart from that. The issue is, it’s pretty rare that Perth fail to fire, and the Sixers are a top class side. It’s hard to see past the home win here, but we should have an entertaining game.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the sixth game at the Perth Stadium as we come to the end of the group stage of the tournament. Perth only have one more home game after this one, against Melbourne Renegades on Sunday morning. It has definitely looked like batting has got easier as the tournament has gone on here. The first inning scores have been; 155/9 (won), 133/7 (chased), 135 all out (chased), 142/9 (chased in 17 overs) and 171/9 (chased in 16.1 overs). Judging by how quickly Perth chased down the 171, I’d suggest the side batting first has to be aiming for at least 180, maybe even more, to be in the game here. I’d definitely chase if I won the toss, put all the pressure on the batting side.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Hobart Hurricanes are a solid side, but they just aren’t at the same level of Perth Scorchers in my opinion. The 1.73 is big enough take on the home win here, with Perth Scorchers have a very good record at home. They also have a good record here this season winning four of the five games. As I said above, it’s not often that the Perth Scorchers fail to fire, and I can easily forgive them their loss to Sydney Sixers who are a top class side too. The Hurricanes middle order has bailed them out a few times this season, but they will be really under pressure if they lose early wickets to this excellent Perth attack.

The Edge Says:
Two points win Perth Scorchers to beat Hobart Hurricanes at 1.73 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The difference here could easily be the bowling, and I’m very happy to support their Perth bowlers. It looks like batting conditions are definitely improving as the tournament goes on, and a score of 170 batting first looks like it won’t be enough. I would definitely favour the chasing side here as all the pressure will be on the side who bats first to post a big score – from a trading point of view hopefully Perth are bowling first, we can then support their bowlers and happily get on Perth again at the break to chase down the score posted. I’d be keen to get against the Hurricanes openers too, and then sit out of the market while the middle order is batting as that’s the Hurricanes strong point.
