THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s 2nd ODI between BANGLADESH v ENGLAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
Bangladesh and England renew their battle at Mirpur on Friday after an entertaining 1st ODI on Wednesday. Bangladesh could only manage 209 runs as England bowled them out, but England short odds backers on BETDAQ Betting Exchange had a nervy chase. Dawid Malan scored a wonderful 114 not out, and that was badly needed as he watched the rest of the side get out at the other end. Will Jacks was the second highest scored with 26 runs, and even he only lasted 31 balls. I can’t see the scoring improving on Friday, and we should have another entertaining game.
I was pleased to see Will Jacks do reasonably well. What has happened to him this week really highlights England’s hectic schedule at the moment. He was in the squad for the 2nd Test against New Zealand so he was in Wellington, then when he wasn’t picked he flew to Dhaka, then made his ODI debut on Wednesday, a little over 24 hours after the 2nd Test had finished! Remarkable. What other side in International cricket could put out such a strong side in both formats at the same time only England? India have a second XI in T20 because of how strong the IPL is, but I don’t think they could have such a strong Test and ODI side at the same time.
A lot has happened with this series off the field. Apparently Bangladesh were shocked with how low the Sky Sports offer was to show the series, and shocked how little interest there was from the UK. That is the big issue with ODI cricket at the moment; how do you sell a series without meaning? The ICC scrapped the ODI Super League going forward, and I feel we need some context for games like this going forward. England should win, but Bangladesh are obviously going to make the wicket has tricky as possible which should bring the sides closer together.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
It’s a quick turnaround after Wednesday, and conditions won’t be much difference from Wednesday. I would give it a few overs just to confirm conditions, but I wouldn’t go into this game expecting high scores unless we get a very heavy dew. Although Bangladesh only managed 209, England weren’t far off failing to chase it down. If Malan didn’t stay until the end who knows what could have happened. I would expect a better batting performance if England bat first, and we all know that the likes of James Vince and Jos Buttler will fire at some point.
RECOMMENDED BET:
England are trading heavy odds on favourites at 1.52, and I feel that’s a little short. For starters, they don’t have their absolute best XI – I know they have a lot of star quality on show and will likely get the job done in the end, but Bangladesh at 2.88 are the value bet. I just expect a closer game than the odds suggest here; I’m happy to keep stakes small and go with the value. As I said above, the conditions should bring the sides closer together – Mirpur is usually slow and low, and Bangladesh are at full strength too. I know England have a lot of match winners in their squad, we saw that in the opening ODI, but Bangladesh can put them under pressure and hopefully get the job done.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
With batting conditions expected to be tough, I wouldn’t stay on either batting side for long. Jason Roy seems a likely player to take on at the top of the England order – I know Vince and Buttler failed in the middle-order in the 1st ODI, but they aren’t players you always want to take on! It seems a no brainer to support the spinners on both sides, and if England bat first we’ll likely see some market movement as they struggle to score runs. If that did happen, I wouldn’t stay on Bangladesh for the chase as it’s likely they struggle too! As I said above, I feel Bangladesh make this closer than the odds suggest; probably trade odds on at some point, and hopefully can hold their heads under pressure to win.
