THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s IPL clash between Rajasthan Royals v Gujarat Titans with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The IPL drama continues on Friday as Rajasthan Royals take on Gujarat Titans on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! We’ve had plenty of talking points this week, players and management arguing after the games and plenty of debate around it on social media. I don’t mind a bit of needle and spice between teams – after all most T20 franchise leagues are just about money these days. Obviously the IPL is on another level to the other T20 franchise leagues, and we see that passion on the field. I’m all for the teams arguing with each other!

This should be a high quality game between two sides towards the top of the table. The IPL has actually thrown up quite a few surprises lately, and it really has opened things up. Gujarat Titans looked like they were going to go clear at the top of the table, but a disappointing loss to Delhi Capitals keeps them grounded for the time being. That was a shock loss with Delhi sitting bottom of the table, and Gujarat only needed to chase 130/8 too – it was a poor batting performance in the chase to lose by five runs. Rajasthan Royals were the hottest team at the start of the IPL, but they come into this game having lost three of their last four games.

The loss against Mumbai at the weekend must have been tough to take, they posted 212/7 and Mumbai chased it down in front of a crazy Wankhede fanbase. It was a great game to watch, I doubt it was great in the second innings for Rajasthan! Bowling has been an issue for Rajasthan – they conceded 189/9 against RCB and they have been involved in some very high scoring games. This could be another cracker.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the third game at Jaipur, and so far the team batting first has won twice. The first inning scores have been 154/7 and 202/5. In fairness, Rajasthan Royals really should have won the opening game here. They got to 87/0 at one stage in the stage and totally collapsed from there. It’s been quite a gap here because of Covid19, but usually you want to chase at this ground. I’m still keeping an open mind to be honest – the first game was a collapse and the second game was a high score – the average score here pre-Covid was in the 160’s.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Gujarat losing against Delhi earlier in the week was a big surprise, especially after all the good work from their bowlers in first innings. These things happen over the course of a tournament though, and I would still have them as marginal favourites here given their over all standard of performance. Saha, Gill and Miller only managed six runs between them against Delhi, and that’s just not going to happen often. Rajashtan obviously rely a little on Buttler up top and he has given the top order confidence too. Early wickets will be very important here, but Gujarat are the value in my opinion at 2.04.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I have to say I am going into this game with a more open mind than usual for my in-running trading. As I highlighted above, usually it was an edge to bowl first and chase here. This season the side batting first has won twice, but there are reasons to still believe bowling first is an edge. The second game here saw a very high score batting first however, nearly 40 over the average score pre-Covid19 and then the first game should have had a winning chase. I feel there’s no set plan heading into this game, and there will be better strategies at other grounds, or even this ground later in the tournament. At the moment, it’s a wait and see approach here.
