IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Monday’s IPL game between Sunrisers Hyderabad v Lucknow Super Giants with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We start another week at the Indian Premier League on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on Lucknow Super Giants. Although this is only the second game for Sunrisers Hyderabad, they already find themselves under pressure after losing their opening game by such a big margin to Rajasthan Royals. They had such a bad season last year, it’s easy to see why fans will get on their back quickly here and they haven’t improved their squad either. It could be another very long season for them – even longer than last season given we have two extra teams!

We’ll probably never really know the full story of what happened with David Warner at Hyderabad last season, but after so many years there and being the captain he was treated very poorly. They haven’t brought in a blockbuster opener to replace him, and they haven’t replaced Rashid Khan in the bowling attack either. Not only that, they lost Jonny Bairstow too – I know he opted out of the UAE last year but that’s still a major loss. For all his talent, Kane Williamson doesn’t have the strike rate to carry this batting and their bowling looks light too.

Lucknow have an excellent chance to get back-to-back wins after beating CSK in their second game on Thursday. They benefited from heavy dew when chasing down the 210/7 from CSK but as I said in my preview of that game, Lucknow look like they will be a very good team this season – they look very solid and their openers will win a lot of games for them. The bowling isn’t ideal, but of course you never have a perfect side.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re back on the DY Patil and as I was saying in my preview on Saturday, I’ll be keeping an open mind on conditions. We had another high scoring game on Saturday morning (UK time) with Rajasthan scoring 193/8 in the first innings thanks to a wonderful knock from Jos Buttler but we also had a big range of scores in the opening two games here. Was saw 205/2 chased down in the opening game and then KKR were all out for 128, and RCB made heavy work of chasing that too. Jos Buttler can do wonderful things with the bat so I’m still keen to see conditions here. I would expect a pretty high score, but I wouldn’t be confident. Dew has been having a big impact, so spend most of your time looking for dew.

RECOMMENDED BET:

As I said above, I think this is going to be a very long season for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Another loss here would set them right on the backfoot so early in the tournament, and a lot of fans will feel that they are booked in for last spot again. They need a win soon, but I don’t think they’ll get it here. I know the Lucknow bowling needs a little bit of work, but they won’t be under too much pressure from this Sunrisers batting. The Lucknow batting looks a lot stronger on paper, and I feel that’s what will win the game here. It was nice to land our bet on Lucknow against CSK, and they are worth backing again here as favourites at 1.72 this time.

The Edge Says:
Two points win Lucknow Super Giants to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad at 1.72 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said in my preview on Saturday, it is hard to fully form an in-running strategy with confidence here given the range of scores we have seen in the opening games here. I will go into this game in a cagey fashion too – I felt the best angle was taking on the Mumbai bowling on Saturday and that paid off – I feel the best angle here is taking on the Sunrisers batting, whether they bat first or second. The only reasons I wouldn’t take on their batting here is if there is heavy dew because we all know dew gives the batters a massive advantage. I wouldn’t mind taking on the Sunrisers bowling either given it looks weak on paper, and the Lucknow batting does look good too.
