BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s Big Bash game between Melbourne Stars v Perth Scorchers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re at the crunch stage of the Big Bash group stage now with just four days left. We have a huge amount of fixtures and an extremely tight race for the Playoffs so we can expect plenty of drama to come! Melbourne Stars take on Perth Scorchers at the MCG in the second game of a double header with all cricket bets 0% commission with BETDAQ Betting Exchange on Saturday. It’s a busy day for cricket fans in Melbourne as the Renegades take on Brisbane Heat over in Docklands too!

As I said we might only have four days left, but we have two double headers and a triple header on the final day on Tuesday so there’s plenty of twists and turns to come in the table. This game is massive though given the situation. Perth went into second with a win over Hobart Hurricanes yesterday and were four points ahead of Melbourne Stars. There’s very little between second and seventh, a win for Perth would put them into an excellent position and put the Stars under massive pressure. These two won’t play again under the final day, so by then they should know what they need to do! There’s more pressure on the Stars however, as they have to play table toppers Sydney Sixers on the final day.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

With Covid19 we haven’t had the usual amount of cricket at the MCG. This will only be the third game here. So far the Stars are two from two here with two very impressive wins. They won by 111 runs against Adelaide Strikers after scoring 179/2 and then chased down Melbourne Renegades 150 quite easily. 165-170 looks like a competitive score here and with two good batting sides on display that’s what they will be aiming for.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I expect a very good game here and although the Perth Scorchers seem to be hitting form just in time for the Playoffs, I feel the value call here is with the Melbourne Stars at 2.1. I’d have this game 50/50 with the Stars having home advantage and being very impressive in their two games here this season. The Scorchers enjoyed the benefits of home advantage when they got to play a few games at Perth Stadium and I don’t see much between the sides on paper so the Stars are the value call for me.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I’d expect a very high quality game here so we should have plenty of swings in-running, so it should be a good game for trading. A few players struggled to time the ball in the last game here, so I’d definitely take a good look at batting conditions before getting on the team batting first. We’ve had two very different games with Stars winning easily batting first and chasing. The openers might go early for both sides here with Roy not really hitting form in the tournament – he hasn’t really done much yet and Andre Fletcher hasn’t continued from his good knock the other day. I would be keen to get on the bowlers with the new ball.

The Perth batting looks marginally stronger, especially should Maxwell fail, and I’d be keen to support their lower order too. The Stars lower order looks weak after Maxwell goes however their top five have been good. This game is just about picking spots and going with momentum in my opinion. We should see a pretty even game.
