CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s match between Guyana Amazon Warriors v Barbados Royals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Caribbean Premier League has reached the halfway point in the tournament and we’re all set for an excellent Saturday night. We have a double header on Saturday at Warner Park, but I’m going to focus on the second game as Guyana Amazon Warriors take on Barbados Royals. So far we have had plenty of drama at the CPL. We’ve had “strange” betting patterns, high scoring and tied games. We’ve basically had everything bar a very low score batting first; but I’m sure that will come later in the tournament as the pitches get worn. You get the feeling that this is a huge game for both sides. Indeed, I feel it is a must win game for both sides. Prior to today, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots have looked unstoppable with five wins from five games. Isn’t it funny how we always get a team that goes on a winning streak at the CPL! It doesn’t happen in many other T20 leagues.

That leaves Barbados Royals at the bottom of the table with only one win from five games, and Guyana Amazon Warriors just two points ahead of them with two wins from their five games. Prior to today’s games the table was wide open, with everyone on four points apart from top and bottom. That means Barbados can get back into the mix but a win for Guyana would leave them in a solid position too. This is an important game!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

With all the games at Warner Park at this CPL, we should know conditions pretty well by now. The scores have marginally started to tick down in recent days, which isn’t a surprise given you’d expect the pitches to play tougher as the tournament goes on and spin comes more into it. We’ve also seen a lot of scores in the mid 150’s to 160’s and that definitely looks like a par score. Both these sides struggled in their last two games however, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lower score than usual here. Guyana were all out for 98 on Thursday chasing 149/7 for example. The weather looks ok at the moment, but that doesn’t mean not to check the radar given the storms can pop up from anywhere.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Barbados were a little unlucky to lose on Thursday against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. They lost with a six off the final ball, and although they do sit bottom of the table – you can see they are starting to play better cricket as the tournament goes on. You won’t concede a six off the last ball every day, and they just have to keep going. Guyana have had a very up and down tournament, and the bottom line is you just can’t trust them looking at their batting line-up. Their bowling has been very odd at times, and I think we have the wrong favourites here. Barbados are worth backing for me at 2.1 – they look an improving side and can come off the bottom of the table soon.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I feel chasing is starting to get tricky at the tournament now, apart from St Kitts & Nevis Patriots who seemingly can’t lose! I would be keen to get on the team batting first here, especially if that was Barbados. We get a little advantage here because we can see conditions in the earlier game and slightly change out in-running strategy based off that. I would expect the team batting first to have better batting conditions, and that might give them an edge – they still have to bat well though! And these two teams are hardly bombproof as we have seen.
