Adelaide Strikers v Hobart Hurricanes

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The clock is ticking down on the Big Bash group stage, and we have a huge clash on Betdaq Betting Exchange. Adelaide Strikers take on Hobart Hurricanes with both sides under pressure in the race for the playoffs. These two are actually lucky the playoff spots go down to fifth; however Hobart Hurricanes are only two points behind Melbourne Stars now in fourth, and they have a game in hand too. The Hurricanes also have a better net run rate, so they could actually break into the top four but it looks like the top three is a lock between Brisbane Heat, Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers.

Adelaide Strikers are also in the mix for that fifth spot because they are only one point behind Hobart Hurricanes. That puts them three points behind Melbourne Stars so it seems fifth is the best spot for them at the moment. I wouldn’t rule out the loser finishing the tournament strongly and making the playoffs but you could also call this a must win game for both sides with games running out. It’s actually a massive week for both sides as they clash again on Thursday – funny how the fixture list threw out essentially back-to-back fixtures between these two right on the line of the playoffs too!

Hobart went an age without a win away from home until they beat Melbourne Renegades recently, however the Renegades have been quite poor this Big Bash. They went back to losing ways on the road against Brisbane Heat last time out, only by one run though! The Strikers have a good top three, but their middle order is very weak and that is costing them. An important game ahead!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The Adelaide Oval is always a brilliant place for cricket, and we’ve had some fantastic batting here this season. It’s been an excellent wicket, with scores high. The first inning scores have been; 200/7 (chased), 205/4 (chased) and 153/7 (chased). Obviously with that record you have to bowl first. The Strikers only lost one wicket chasing down that 153 too, and had 23 balls to spare as well. I’d expect another high scoring game for the final game of the season here.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Both sides clearly have their flaws as well as their positives. For example, the top three for Adelaide Strikers are quite impressive, the middle order less so. The Hobart Hurricanes batting absolutely threw away their last game – only 22 runs coming from the top five in the batting order. Wade missed out with a back injury and they desperately need him back. I think it’s fair to say that it’s hard to be confident in either side, and I actually feel the toss will have a huge impact on the result. I feel whoever bowls first will have the conditions edge to win the game.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

We have a batting paradise in Adelaide, but two sides who have their flaws. I would be keen to get against both batting line-ups in different conditions. In general, it’s paid to support the batting side here with multiple scores over 200. As I said above, I feel the biggest edge here will be supporting the side who bats second. We could see a big score in the first innings, so getting on the chasing side at the innings break seems a good call.
