BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s Big Bash game between Melbourne Renegades v Adelaide Strikers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Big Bash moves back to the Adelaide Oval as the Melbourne Renegades take on the Adelaide Strikers! This is actually Adelaide Strikers home ground but it’s down as a home fixture for the Renegades.. it might be 2021 but the world is still in 2020 mode! The Strikers have had a very up-and-down season and that’s pretty much reflected in the table. They sit mid table with three wins and four losses, and will probably sneak into the final playoff spot.

The Renegades are having a horrible tournament. They are rock bottom with only one win from six games and it’s hard to know where this came from. They actually looked like they had a good chance on paper this season. They had Aaron Finch for the whole tournament and their batting looked good on paper. Unfortunately for them it’s been anything but that. Their batting has been woeful and they have been losing games by some pretty big margins.

They lost by 96 runs against Perth Scorchers, 129 runs against Sydney Thunder and 145 runs against Sydney Sixers. Not only does that highlight a problem in the batting department, it’s obvious there is a problem with the bowling too. They have just been conceding too many runs, and even when they have been on top the bowling has left them down. They will consider this a chance to get back to winning ways against an advantage Strikers side, but they really need to improve.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This is the third game at the Adelaide Oval and so far batting has looked tricky. The Strikers scored 165/8 in the first game here but they bowled Perth Scorchers out for 94 in the chase. Then the sides played again a couple of games later and the Striker only managed 146/9 batting first. That was chased and definitely looks short of par, however I wouldn’t be expecting a big score here looking at the conditions. We can have very high scoring games here and very tricky batting conditions. So far it’s looked on the tricky side.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It’s hard to back the Renegades at any price at the moment. Nothing seems to be working for them – their bowling looks very poor and their batting isn’t going well enough to win games for them. I fully take on board that the Striker aren’t a reliable side, but they should have enough in the tank to beat this advantage Renegades side. They know conditions here and that can be the difference. It’s not a game for big stakes, but the Strikers are worth backing at 1.71.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

This is one of those games to fully focus on how the wicket is playing in the opening overs. That should set the tone for trading the full game on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Based on what I’ve seen in the first two games here, it looks hard for batting and I wouldn’t be rushing to support the batting side. If the wicket is slow, it’s usually an advantage to bat first – however it’s very easy to just say “take advantage of conditions and set a score” – as we saw in the second game here, it’s very easy to fall short aiming too high.

I’d be very keen to be against the Renegades batting whether they bat first or second. They have been so poor, and their bowling hasn’t been much better. If the wicket is tricky, that will surely help the Strikers. Everything points to the trading opportunities being on the Strikers here.
