BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s Big Bash game between Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Stars with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s a case of déjà vu as we move back to the Manuka Oval in Canberra for Sydney Thunder against the Melbourne Stars on Tuesday morning in the Big Bash! As we all know by now, this is a season like no other with Covid19 restrictions, and we’ve already had this fixture at this very ground this season! It’s a shame this has happened a few times this season, especially with the fixture coming up so close together. It would have been fine if they were spaced out more in my opinion.

Nevertheless, another good game for trading to get stuck into on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. The Thunder are coming off an ultra-impressed win over the other side from Melbourne as they beat the Renegades by 129 runs on Boxing Day! That was a faultless performance at this ground as they scored 209/8 and then bowling the Renegades out for 80. Thunder seemed to rely on their top three on paper, but their middle to low order hasn’t been as bad as we thought at the start of the tournament.

Melbourne Stars already look like they’ll be making the Playoffs where they will likely throw it all away again, but they look like a solid side this season. They were very lucky the rain came when it did against Perth Scorchers though as they found themselves in a tricky position. Their bowling needs work in my opinion; as we saw when Sydney Sixers chased down their 193/5 at the Carrara Oval.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’ve had enough games here to know that this is a good surface for batting. We also saw 178 chased down successfully too; although that came against the Brisbane Heat bowling which is weak. We have some top quality batting on display today and I’d expect another high scoring game. Thunder lost eight wickets and still scored 200+ here the last day, so losing wickets didn’t slow them down. I’d expect plenty of hitting and you’d definitely want a score of 180 or bigger batting first.

RECOMMENDED BET:

This should be a high quality game. I expect a close game, but I fancy the Thunder here at 2.1. I feel the conditions will suit the Thunder more than the Stars because their bowling is a little bit better. The Stars bowling looks like it’s there for the taking and with good batting conditions expected, the Thunder have a great chance of winning. For me they should be favourites; although granted I wouldn’t have much between the pair in the betting. Nevertheless, Thunder are worth backing at 2.1.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I’d be keen to get on whoever is batting first here given the good batting conditions. However, it’s always easier said than done to put up a big score in good conditions. I wouldn’t be keen holding onto the position if they didn’t have 180 or more on the board. Especially Melbourne Stars as I feel their bowling can go around the park today.

The market has put a lot of ticks on the top three for the Thunder but their middle to lower order has chipped in. It’s hard to predict who will get the runs, but so far at least one of them has. They do look pretty poor on paper so perhaps try to avoid being on the middle order unless it looks like they have good momentum. I’d also be keen to be against the Stars openers while Thunder have the new ball.
