THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s T20 World Cup clash between Sri Lanka v UAE with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have a massive game at the cricket World Cup on Tuesday morning as Sri Lanka meet the UAE with the loser going home. Sri Lanka come into the game as the massive favourites on BETDAQ Betting Exchange but after a big setback losing against Namibia in their opening game, the pressure is definitely on now. The good news for Sri Lankan fans is that the UAE failed with the ball in their opening game, and to be honest anything bar a Sri Lanka win would be a big shock here.

It’s fair to say that Sri Lanka have had a very up-and-down run of things into this World Cup. They have been wrote off over the last few years as a “team in transition” because they don’t have many stars at the moment compared to years gone by. They have suffered some heavy losses to the top teams around the world too, however they roared to a win in the T20 Asia Cup coming into this tournament – shocking India and Pakistan along the way. They were so impressive in that tournament they would have been expected to stroll through this part of the competition.

Although UAE could only manage 111/8 in their opening game, their bowlers were superb. Netherlands had to go to the final over to chase that down, and they lost seven wickets along the way too. That basically means their net run rate isn’t too bad, and Sri Lanka find themselves in a bad position net run rate wise – this Group will likely come down to net run rate given the Sri Lanka loss, however they will be expected to win their final two games.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re back in Geelong where batting looked tricky on the opening day. Namibia posted an impressive 163/7 before bowling Sri Lanka out for 108 and then we had the low scoring game between the UAE and the Netherlands. This will be the second game here so I would expect tricky batting conditions again to be honest – we do have some lower quality sides involved at this stage of the competitions so you have to consider that brings down the scoring a little too. Given there’s been so much rain around Australia, watching the radar is a must.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It’s no surprise that Sri Lanka are heavy favourites heading into this game, however I wouldn’t have them as short as 1.1 here. I feel the UAE are worth a small bet at odds of 9.0 or bigger here from a value point of view. I fully accept Sri Lanka are a few levels above the UAE, but this UAE side have a very good bowling line-up and we know Sri Lanka have had plenty of collapses this season. On their day they can post a very good batting total as we saw in the Asia Cup but with tricky batting conditions expected I feel we’ll see a little drama here with UAE doing well.

The Edge Says:
One point win UAE to beat Sri Lanka at 9.0 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With three of the four innings on the opening day here seeing very low scores (sub 120), I wouldn’t spend long here on either batting side. The market will expect Sri Lanka to bat very well here, but don’t discount this UAE bowling attack who did very well against the Netherlands. I feel the best trading edge might be supporting the UAE bowlers, but I wouldn’t stay on the UAE long enough to support their batters too – check the early game to confirm here but I would expect another low scoring game.
