CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE: Our new cricket tipster The Edge previews the start of the Caribbean Premier League on Tuesday and the match between Trinbago Knight Riders v Guyana Amazon Warriors with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

The Edge has been a professional cricket trader for over 12 years, and we are delighted to have his columns on BETDAQ Tips. He provides his best bets on a points scale between 1 and 5, with 5 being a rare max bet.

Because we see so much action in-running on cricket, he will also provide some in-running strategies that could develop in-play and lead to some excellent value bets. The Edge covers all forms of cricket: Test Matches, ODI’s and T20’s but his favourite competition is the Indian Premier League each season.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s been a long time waiting for some top class T20 action, however the Caribbean Premier League gets underway on Tuesday. The times have been moved around because of COVID19 and we’ll be playing behind closed doors, but we should see some excellent action on the pitch!

Of course, it wouldn’t be the CPL without build up drama. We’ve had players unhappy with the bio-secure bubble set up with Darren Sammy coming out publicly on Twitter to criticise the Trinbago players. The Trinbago players have been allowed to remain outside the bio-secure bubble because the games start in that region. The other teams clearly see this as unfair, and to be honest they have a point. We might see some interesting clashes on the field with Trinbago!

Trinbago have some top quality players with West Indies Internationals Pollard, Narine and the two Bravo brothers in the squad, while Guyana look a little light this season. That being said, they have Imran Tahir and Ross Taylor in the squad. They also have Brandon King who top scored in the CPL in 2019.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The game starts at 3pm UK time, which is an unusual time for the CPL. Usually the early games starting around 5-30pm or so. Not too much of a difference, but we could see a slower pitch given the day time conditions and lack of dew to speed it up. With this being the first game, it will pay to see how the pitch plays before jumping in early.

The Brian Lara Stadium has been used in the last three CPL’s, but it hasn’t been used much. It’s only been used for the Playoff games but given the situation we start the tournament here. The average score in 2017 was 153 from four games, 156 in 2018 from two games and 166 in 2019 from two games. Not a big data set to go off, but at least it’s something.

The CPL is played in blocks at certain grounds, so you should gain knowledge quickly on the conditions with a view to the game later in the day or the coming days. The chasing team has won four from eight games, so no big advantage. We usually see a lot of sixes, with the lowest amount being hit at nine in those eight games.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I’m surprised to see the odds so close here. I make Trinbago decent favourites. Guyana are a solid side who actually won every game last season bar the final, but Trinbago look to have have a lot in their favour heading into this tie.

Things have changed around the world with COVID19, but Trinbago have had better opportunity to prepare for this clash given the bubble issue that the players were moaning about from other teams. Along with having a strong line-up in my view, they have a slight competitive edge heading into this tie and with home advantage (more or less!) I’m happy to take the 1.93. Narine and Dwayne Bravo were carrying knocks last year, but with the break in cricket all the Trinbago stars should be 100% fit.

The Edge Says:
Two points win Trinbago Knight Riders to beat Guyana Amazon Warriors at 1.93 with BETDAQ Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As this is a new starting time, I would definitely spend the early overs getting a feel for conditions. I have given you all the relevant stats on the stadium above, but we live in different times. There is another game here later and the next few fixtures are here too – so it’s worth investing time to get a feel for the conditions.

I would expect a decent amount of sixes, so don’t let a lot of sixes massively impact your trading. We usually see between 13 and 15 sixes per T20 here, and there is no real preference for chasing or batting first.

Last year in the CPL, Trinbago had an average score of 184 when batting first while it was 185 for Guyana batting first. I would expect decent scores, with 160 being a chase-able score looking at the ground data. Once it goes over 160 things get tricky. As always, a lot depends on pitch which we will just have to wait and see how it plays.
