MATCH OVERVIEW:

The action continues on BETDAQ Betting Exchange at the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday as the sides return from a break. The tournament moves to Gros Islet after having the first five games at Warner Park in St Kitts – hopefully we get improved weather here because we lost two of those seven games. It’s obviously very early days but Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbaros Royals top the table as they have both won their opening two games, while St Lucia Kings sit bottom of the table with two losses. St Kitts & Nevis Patriots are also in trouble because they have played four games, losing two and then having two washed out.

St Lucia Kings being bottom isn’t a surprise given their weak looking squad. This fixture should give us an idea where we stand at the top of the table because we have two strong sides here. Trinbago won their opening game of the tournament against St Lucia Kings and then had their second game washed out. They have a very strong squad with very strong domestic players – Sunil Narine, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard are all top quality at this level and they will go deep in the tournament.

Barbados Royals have less domestic talent but more International talent. Jason Holder heads their domestic talent but they have the likes of Quinton de Kock, David Miller and Harry Tactor from Ireland who has been a big success this summer. It will be fascinating to see how he does once this tournament is over to see his strike rate and how many runs he can manage. He is the first Irish player outside of Paul Stirling to get contracts like this over the last few years.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

After all the weather in St Kitts, even though we move venue you simply have to keep an eye on the radar here. It’s very hard to trust a forecast in the West Indies because of the nature of the rain and temperatures – usually we get heavy downpours and they don’t last long but can obviously cause a lot of damage to the ground. There is rain forecast over the next few days, but it’s all about what time it hits and such. Scoring wise after the break with Covid etc, I would go into this game with a completely open mind. We didn’t see CPL games here in 2021 or 2020.

RECOMMENDED BET:

An interesting market here with Trinbago Knight Riders clear favourites at 1.58. I expect a good quality game here, and there’s no getting away from the fact that Trinbago have the strongest domestic side in the competition but I’m going to have a small value bet on Barbados at 2.58. I just feel we’ll see a closer game than the odds suggest here – I know Trinbago are a very impressive side but Barbados have a lot of match winners too. Miller had a poo Hundred in England, but he was in the worst side in the competition. If he comes in with more of a platform here he can do well. We could easily have a shorter game too with the weather which should bring the odds closer together.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I feel the only thing you can do here from an in-running point of view is keep an eye on the radar and see what edges in the market come from that. I would definitely bowl first as I feel that will give a slight edge, and you might see the market move a little after the toss. It’s hard to fully form an in-running strategy here given we haven’t any recent ground data so I’m not sure what a par score is and is there an advantage batting or bowling first. We’ll just have to see what conditions are like today and that will help us for the rest of the games here.
