EVERTON V SOUTHAMPTON

8pm Monday Night Football comes from Goodison this week as we kick off another busy week of Premier League action! With a break in European action, we have Premier League fixtures Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week too. Hopefully we can land some winners on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! I feel we can get off to a winning start with Everton here as Southampton come into this game in poor form.

The Saints did manage to get a 1-1 draw with Chelsea before losing 3-0 to Leeds last Tuesday, however Chelsea did enough to win that game looking at xG. Southampton could say they didn’t deserve to lose 3-0 to Leeds, however they have been out of sorts lately and they are just conceding too many goals. I can forgive them the 9-0 against Manchester United as that was just a freak results, but then they conceding three against Newcastle and two against Wolves who haven’t been great this season.

Everton come into this fixture off a massive 2-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield – winning there for the first time in many years! It was exceptionally disappointing to see them lose 2-0 to Fulham recently but you’d expect them to lose against Manchester City and they didn’t play too badly. Looking at the xG figures from both sides, Everton will likely create a lot more than Southampton here and with the Saints shipping goals I feel the value is clearly with Everton at 2.2.

I can see Southampton turning their form around soon as I don’t think this will be a long losing run; however they need to fix their issues at the back and with Everton full of confidence heading into this fixture it is an ideal time to back them. This goes without saying but their motivation should be sky high given they have a chance of winning in the Top Four this season. They will more than likely come up short, but after the win against Liverpool they are definitely in the mix with a game in hand to come.

The Striker Says:
Two points win Everton to beat Southampton at 2.2 with BETDAQ Betting Exchange

MATCH STATS

  • Everton are unbeaten in their last 15 home Premier League games against Southampton (W10 D5), since losing 0-2 under Howard Kendall in the 1997-98 campaign.
  • Among Premier League fixtures played at least 25 times, only Everton vs Leeds United (11.5%) has a lower away win percentage than Everton vs Southampton (11.6%), with the away side winning just five of the 43 meetings between the sides in the competition.
  • Following their 2-0 victory against Everton back in October, Southampton are looking to secure their first league double over the Toffees since 1997-98.
  • Southampton have won their last two Premier League Monday games, winning 2-1 at Brighton and 1-0 against Liverpool this season. They last won three consecutive top-flight Monday games in April 1992, with the second game in that run being a 1-0 victory against Liverpool.
  • Everton have lost their last three Premier League home games, last losing more consecutively at home in the top-flight between April – September 1958 (7). Meanwhile, boss Carlo Ancelotti has never lost four consecutive home league games in his managerial career.
  • Everton have played more Premier League games on the first day of the month than any other side (60). Their record in these games is W17 D14 L29, at least seven more defeats than any other side. Indeed, they’ve lost both such games this season (Newcastle in November, West Ham in January).

  • Southampton striker Danny Ings has been directly involved in seven goals in his nine Premier League starts against Everton (5 goals, 2 assists). Ings has scored in five Premier League games versus Everton without ending on the winning side (D2 L3), with only Alan Shearer vs Liverpool (7) and Teddy Sheringham vs Chelsea (6) doing so more often against a side without winning in Premier League history.
  • Richarlison is looking to score in three consecutive Premier League games for Everton for the first time since December 2019. The Brazilian scored the first – and ultimately, winning – goal against Liverpool last time out.
  • Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson has been involved in six Premier League goals in 23 appearances this season (4 goals, 2 assists), one more than in 35 games last season (2 goals, 3 assists). Only against Chelsea (6) has Sigurdsson scored more Premier League goals than he has vs Southampton (5).
