BURNLEY V WOLVES

5.30pm It’s the last Premier League matchday before Christmas and we have two fascinating markets on BETDAQ Betting Exchange for Monday Night Football. We start with Burnley hosting Wolves after a recent upturn in results. Looking at their xG figures their performances haven’t really changed. Indeed if you were to be critical like we should you’d say they’ve been very lucky recently. For example, they drew 0-0 with Aston Villa but conceded an xG of 2.05 – they also beat Arsenal 1-0 while conceding an xG of 2.07 and they drew 1-1 with Everton while also conceding an xG of over 2. Results might have got better on paper and they climbed out of the relegation zone, but I’d still be very worried about them staying up.

Wolves haven’t been at their best this season. Indeed, they are having a very up-and-down season. I was surprised to see them beat Chelsea 2-1, but xG says they were very lucky to win that game. They have thrown in some woeful performances this season at different stages which is very unlike them, and while that has to be worry with a view to tonight’s game I can’t get away from them at 2.3 here. I take on board Burnley will be full of confidence given their good run but the underlining numbers say they are there to be beaten. Hopefully Wolves turn up and put in a good performance.

The Striker Says:
Two points win Wolves to beat Burnley at 2.3 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange

MATCH STATS

  • Burnley have lost just one of their last six home league games against Wolves (W3 D2), with that coming in the first Premier League meeting between the sides at Turf Moor in March 2010 (1-2).
  • Wolves have won just one of their last eight league meetings with Burnley (D4 L3), winning 1-0 at home in the Premier League in September 2018.
  • Both Premier League meetings between Burnley and Wolves last season ended 1-1, with the home side netting a 90th minute equalising penalty in both games.
  • All five of Burnley’s Premier League wins in Monday games have seen them keep a clean sheet, with their last four such victories being by a 1-0 scoreline.
  • Wolves have won eight of their last 10 away league matches on Monday (D1 L1), winning two this season: 2-0 at Sheffield United and 1-0 at Leeds.
  • Since beating Bournemouth 3-0 in February, Burnley have failed to score more than once in any of their last 10 Premier League home games (W2 D4 L4), netting seven goals in the process.
  • Wolves have alternated between defeat (4) and victory (3) in their last seven away league games, losing 0-4 at Liverpool last time out.
  • Burnley manager Sean Dyche has managed more home league games against Wolves without losing than any other side as Clarets boss (P4 W2 D2).
  • Since returning to the Premier League in 2018/19, all three of Wolves’ Premier League goals against Burnley have been scored by Raul Jimenez, who is out injured for this match.
  • Wolves’ Pedro Neto has been involved in six goals in 13 Premier League games this season (4 goals, 2 assists), as many as he had in 29 appearances in the competition last term (3 goals, 3 assists).

CHELSEA V WEST HAM

8pm We go into Christmas with a London Derby send off! This should be an excellent fixture as Chelsea have run into trouble in recent weeks and West Ham are having a good season. The Hammers will surely see this as an excellent chance to get another one over their London rivals – remember the 3-2 West Ham win when we came out of lockdown – they actually won this fixture 1-0 last season too so they’ll be trying to make it three from three against Chelsea which doesn’t happen often! Chelsea have really lost their strong position in the Premier League with two losses against Everton and Wolves. They didn’t deserve to lose either, but they were poor against Everton only deserving a draw. It will be interesting to see how they play tonight.

West Ham have been excellent this season, and we have made some good money supporting them at various times throughout the season at nice odds. I feel that Chelsea are a little short at 1.5 tonight given how many chances West Ham have been creating but even though Chelsea have lost two games, they haven’t been playing bad football. You can see on the xG figures they should have won against Wolves, never mind even draw. I think we’ll see goals here between two teams who have attacked and played very well going forward this season. Over 2.5 goals is 1.58 and I’d have it shorter than 1.5.

The Striker Says:
Two points win Over 2.5 goals at 1.58 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange

MATCH STATS

  • Chelsea have lost just one of their last 14 Premier League home games against West Ham (W9 D4), though it was in this exact fixture last season (0-1). They’ve not lost back-to-back home league games against the Hammers since February 1996.
  • West Ham won home and away against Chelsea in the Premier League last season, and are looking to win three in a row against the Blues in the top-flight for the first time since a run of four between September 1972 and March 1974.
  • Chelsea have lost their final league match before Christmas in just two of their last 30 seasons (W19 D9), losing to Leeds United in 1999 and Leicester City in 2018.
  • West Ham’s final league match before Christmas last season was a 1-0 win over Southampton – the Hammers haven’t gone into Christmas with a win in consecutive seasons since doing so three years in a row between 1978 and 1980.
  • When scoring at least once, Chelsea have lost just one of their last 38 Premier League home games (W27 D10), with that defeat coming at the hands of Liverpool last season (1-2). The Blues are unbeaten in their last 16 league games in which they’ve scored at Stamford Bridge (W14 D2).
  • Chelsea have lost their last two Premier League games, with the Blues last losing three in a row in the competition back in November 2015.
  • West Ham have gained five points from losing positions in the Premier League this season, including their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace last time out. The Hammers only won five points from behind in the whole of the 2019-20 campaign.
  • West Ham have won their last two Premier League away games, as many as they had in their previous 14 on the road (D3 L9). The Hammers last won three consecutively on the road in the competition back in December 2018.
  • Frank Lampard is looking to avoid becoming the first Chelsea manager to lose his first three league encounters with West Ham, while only three managers have lost their first three Premier League games against the Hammers: Danny Wilson (1997-98), Sean Dyche (2014-16) and Ralph Hasenhüttl (2018-19).
  • West Ham manager David Moyes has never won a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge (P15 D7 L8) – the only instance in Premier League history of a manager taking charge of more games at a stadium without winning is Moyes himself at Anfield (16 games).
