8pm As it’s an FA Cup Quarter Final weekend, we only have one Premier League game to enjoy on Saturday but what a fixture it is! With Manchester City already having nearly two hands on the title, this is probably one of the biggest games in the Premier League at the moment. We might see bigger games in the race for a Top Four finish in the final fixtures, but right now this is as big as they come. With Fulham enjoying a lot of success recently, these two sides have come under immense pressure and the loser, if there is one, is in a very difficult position.
Both sides have been fighting hard in recent weeks. Newcastle have managed three draws, although they would have liked to beat West Brom, they have kept themselves ahead of Fulham and it’s only now that Fulham are within touching distance. Brighton finally got three points against Southampton last weekend, coming out on top in a very close game. They might not have deserved to win that with xG saying a draw was a fair result, but they did deserve to win at some stage. Brighton will be asking themselves why they are where they are in the table, but the results just haven’t gone their way. Their performances have been immense. They created an xG of 2.44 in a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, 3.03 in a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace while only conceding 0.27, 3.28 in a 1-0 loss against West Brom and then lost a very close game with Leicester. They deserve to get a bit of luck. The xG table puts them in 5th, yet here they are in a relegation battle.
That win last weekend put Brighton a point ahead of Newcastle, but with Fulham getting very close we all know this could decide who goes down. I know Brighton have been very unlucky lately, but their performances really stand out and I can only see one winner tonight. I’m very happy to take the 1.71 on Brighton as they are a much better side than Newcastle. I take on board that they have played well and lost, but if they keep playing like they have been they will start banging in goals for fun soon. Newcastle don’t create enough to cope with this Brighton side, and I can’t ignore the 1.71.
