WEEK AHEAD: This week comes primarily from Tokyo as the Olympics got off to a flying start over the weekend, but with that there’s plenty of other sporting action to get excited about.
The coverage of the Tokyo Olympics is widespread, and the BBC have all angles covered from the red button which gives you the option from the early hours every morning and throughout the week. Along with that constant action we also have regular games coming from The Hundred which got off to a cracking start last week. Getting us underway this week are the Trent Rockets and Northern Superchargers as they clash on Monday at 18:30.
There’s a double-header of cricketing action on Tuesday with Welsh Fire competing against Southern Brave while at international level Pakistan arrive in the Caribbean on the back of their defeat to England for a T20 series against the West Indies which can be seen on BT Sport at 15:45.
With the second game being played at the same location as the first – Barbados – there’s no need for a travel day and so Wednesday can also play host to a fixture between the two sides again at the same time and again on BT Sport. Later in the evening you can expect fireworks from the Manchester Originals as they host the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Sky Sports.
Getting started on Thursday is the ISPS Handa World Invitational on Sky Sports which, as ever, can be viewed until the final day’s play on Sunday. Coverage will begin from 11:00 daily. There’s yet more action from The Hundred later in the day as London Spirit and Trent Rockets prepare to lock horns at 18:30. Then taking us into the weekend there is a Southern Brave and Birmingham Phoenix fixture on Friday.
The weekend is where things really start to heat up as the Scottish Premiership begins, with two games coming from Rangers and Livingston at 13:30 and an evening kick-off between Hearts and Celtic. On top of that there are two further fixtures coming from The Hundred and another T20 between the West Indies and Pakistan in what should be a closely fought series if Pakistan managed to learn from their mistakes against England. Rounding off the week there are two more games in The Hundred, a Scottish Premiership fixture, another T20 from the Caribbean, and finally the Hungarian Grand Prix where F1 fans will be licking their lips at the thought of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen facing off once again.
It’s a treat for cricket fans this week but that doesn’t stop everybody having a slice of the action come the weekend.
