THE HUNDRED 💯: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Monday’s The Hundred format game between Trent Rockets v Northern Superchargers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We start what should be another fantastic week at The Hundred with Trent Rockets taking on the Northern Superchargers. This is the 7th match, and the market is only getting to grips with the action on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. It’s actually been very hard to judge what is a par score – of course this is to be expected in a new format, but we’re only 20 balls off a T20 – it’s just been tricky but it will get easier as the games continue. We have had some pushback from the media over the weekend, saying that the T20 Blast had all this and a new format wasn’t needed. In fairness, the cricket press in the UK has been very anti-hundred so it’s no surprise we are getting negativity.

This should be another good game though, as Trent Rockets got off a winning start on Saturday while Northern Superchargers were involved in a very high scoring game against Welsh Fire – only losing by five runs but scoring 168/7. You’d have to worry about their bowling; they conceded 173/4 but Jonny Bairstow did get 56 off 36 balls. They surprised me with how close to the target they managed to get after Chris Lynn got out for 11 and then Ben Stokes for 5 – also David Willey only got 2 runs so surely the Northern Superchargers can improve.

Trent Rockets probably put in the best bowling performance of the tournament in their game against the Southern Brave – Joe Root didn’t get to back as D’Arcy Short and Dawid Malan guided them home quickly so I’m still looking forward to seeing how the England captain does in this format!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re back at Trent Bridge today and I’m not sure we learned much here from the opening game. The Trent Rockets bowled superbly and Southern Brave only managed 126/8 but then they chased it down losing only one wicket in 82 balls. Batting conditions are usually very good here, so I would go into the game expecting good batting conditions and a reasonably high score. Both sides have very good batting, but Trent Rockets look like they have much better bowling options.

RECOMMENDED BET:

With both sides having a good batting line-up, I feel it will be the bowling that wins the game here. Trent Rockets really impressed me in their opening game, and I’m happy to back them today at 1.9 or bigger. Northern Superchargers conceded a lot of runs in their opening game, but they have a lot of room for improvement as none of their stars fired. This is definitely a game for small stakes again, and I’m sure it will be another close game, but it’s Trent Rockets for me.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I’d be very keen to look for trades on the batting side here. It didn’t work out in the first game here as the Trent Rockets bowled very well – so I would reduce stakes if they bowl first. The Northern Superchargers conceded a lot in their first game, and we could see another big score if Trent Rockets bat first with the expected good batting conditions. Although I expect Trent Rockets to go well, I wouldn’t mind taking on Joe Root in this format – he didn’t bat the first game and he might be a bit slow for the format. Once again you’d expect a good game with plenty of twists and turns in-running.
