WORLD CUP: The knockout phase continues and we preview Sunday’s two World Cup games between SPAIN v RUSSIA and CROATIA v DENMARK both with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

SPAIN V RUSSIA

3pm We had an action packed day of drama at the World Cup yesterday and hopefully it can continue today! We start with Spain taking on the hosts Russia after topping their Group in the dying moments. Spain were one of the favourites coming into this World Cup; however ultimately they have only managed one win in three games and conceded five goals. That has to be a little worry; and while Russia lost 3-0 to Uruguay last time out; their place in the next stage was already secure and they did impress with their work rate in the two games prior.

Spain are heavy favourites, with the match odds at the time of writing currently trading; Spain 1.64, Russia 6.8 and the draw is 3.95. You have to say that Russia had an easy draw and the fact that their two wins came against Saudi Arabia and Egypt means that you do start to worry about the Uruguay result more and more. It’s difficult to rate a (mostly) meaningless game though; however Spain should easily have too much class for Russia and they look about ten ticks too big here. They don’t have to improve much from their Group games to beat this Russian side; however we can expect a razor sharp Spanish side now we’re coming to the business end of the tournament.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Spain to beat Russia at 1.64.

CROATIA V DENMARK

7pm Croatia sailed through Group D with three wins including an impressive 3-0 win over Argentina. Modric has been their star man, and it will be no surprise to see him run the show again tonight. Denmark had to settle for draws against Australia and France, however after they beat Peru in their first game they had a bit of breathing space. Denmark aren’t a side who score loads of goals; while Croatia have plenty of attacking talent – and that could decide the game today.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Croatia 1.91, Denmark 5.6 and the draw is 3.3. We could have a very tight game here as Denmark have had under 2.5 goals in 10 of their last 11 games – they will definitely want to keep this game tight and close down Croatia’s excellent midfield. Under 2.5 goals is only trading 1.5 though which looks about right – we feel that the value is with Croatia here at 1.91. They have been very impressive in the tournament to date and they should have too much class and movement in midfield for Denmark.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Croatia to beat Denmark at 1.91.
