SHAMROCK AT THE CURRAGH: Feature race is the Big Bad Bob Gladness Stakes at 3.55 where last year’s winner Custom Cut is the current favourite on BETDAQ but SHAMROCK is not convinced about a repeat win.

Not a good day yesterday – the lay won and the NAP lost – a disappointing combination 🙁

Dazzling ended up being a much bigger price than I had expected – looks as though a lot of other people had the same idea about laying. I will continue to treat Aidan O’Brien’s runners with caution, despite a double at Navan yesterday. For me, he is still not firing on full strength.

He saddles Cristoforo Colombo in the Big Bad Bob Gladness Stakes at the Curragh today. His only career wins came on debut at Navan and on the all-weather at Dundalk but has been campaigned at the highest level including a decent effort when fifth to Dawn Approach in the 2000 Guineas. This looks more his level but is hard to back with confidence today.

Custom Cut sprang a 25/1 surprise in this last year and has since changed stables to David O’Meara. He has the benefit of a recent run , and a good one at that, when third in a Listed race at Doncaster but looks vulnerable under a penalty and is my lay of the day. I could easily see another big priced winner pop up.

Alive Alive Oh was a non runner on countless occasions last season because of the ground but the give today should suit her and I am looking forward to seeing her reappearance in the Irish Field Alleged Stakes at 4.25.

SHAMROCK’S BETS
NAP: Alive Alive Oh (4.25 Curragh)
LAY: Custom Cut (3.55 Curragh)
