BANKER CAPS NAPS FOUR-TIMER: Daqman made it four winning naps in a row yesterday with a maximum-stakes banker in the Gallinule Stakes at The Curragh on Adelaide (WON 4-6). The four were:
WON 13-8 Lawman’s Thunder
WON 5-4 Russian Realm
WON 11-4 Tioga Pass
WON 4-6 Adelaide (banker)
Pressure is back on again !!!
“ridden clear 1f out, stayed on strongly, comfortably”
That’s the style a banker should win. I was particularly impressed with Adelaide yesterday. The price went odds-on in the end but that was only because of the late withdrawal of Edelmira.
Winning trainer, Aidan O’Brien said after the race: “We were worried about the soft ground for him as he’s a lovely-moving horse.”He’s done everything what we’ve asked of him so far, and he could go to Ascot for the King Edward, or there’s a chance he could go for the French Derby next weekend, but that could come too soon.”
The French Derby would certainly be an ambitious move but watch this space….
Bank Holiday in the UK which means, you’ve guessed it, plenty of racing.
It’s a great shame though that there aren’t more better quality races on a Bank Holiday. After all, it’s an opportunity for the sport to showcase itself to a wider leisure audience.
The course that offers the most prize money today is picturesque Cartmel who are guaranteed bumper crowds whatever the standard of racing.
Tony McCoy had an armchair winning ride in the opener here on Saturday and there will be plenty supporting the champ onboard Never Never in today’s opener.
He was second last time out to Handmaid at Bangor – the pair finished miles clear and with the McCain stable back in form Never Never should take plenty of beating.
McCain had three winners out of three here on Saturday and two out of three at Uttoxeter yesterday so there are no worries in that department. He’s currently around 2.81 on BETDAQ which looks fair enough.
Second favourite Sunblazer ran really well at Ludlow when only failing by less than a length in third but the winner of that race let the form down slightly when a 12 length second next time out
It’s a day for picking out solid betting opportunities rather than getting drawn in to too many races.
In The Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar the vote goes to Ajmany for Luca Cumani who likes to plunder this prize. The Newmarket handler won it in 2010 and 2012 and Ajmany is just about the form pick here having finished a neck second to Niceofyoutotellme at Newmarket last time out. The extra furlong here should prove perfect.
In The opener at Windsor Bazzana is short but likely to build on a hugely promising debut at Newmarket when third to Realtra
