TWO WEEKEND NAPS: SHAMROCK followed up his winning NAP on Saturday with HASH BROWN (NAP) WON 1/2 at Limerick yesterday.

Two short price naps over the weekend but two out of two.

No Irish racing today or tomorrow and we have to wait until Punchestown on Wednesday for a resumption.

I got a place return from Hidden Universe (2nd 8/1) in the Irish Cesarewitch but not many could have predicted the 25/1 win for the Aidan O’Brien trained top weight El Salvador who had previously finished last of five in the Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown.

It was certainly a family success. El Salvador was partnered by 16-year-old Donnacha O’Brien, younger brother of Joseph and ran in the colours of their mother Anne-Marie.

Father Aidan said after the race: “I’m delighted and it’s great for Donnacha. It’s a hard race to win. He’s a tall fellow and is doing his leaving certificate this year. It was a nice, patient ride as the start was a bit messy and he was a long way back.”

In the previous race the O’Brien’s had a win with Together Forever (Joseph this time) who won the Staffordstown Stud Stakes readily.

The nap, Hash Brown, won well at Limerick – he just needed to be held together until the gap eventually arrived for him to scoot clear and in the Ladbrokes Munster National Handicap Chase it was a JP McManus 1-2 with the (slightly) better fancied Shanpallas holding off Tom Horn in a driving finish with the favourite Bose Ikard just a neck away in third.
