SHAMROCK NAP WINS AGAIN: SHAMROCK’S NAP on Wednesday was DON POLI WON 13/8. He is 2 NAPS from 2 over the Festival and 7 winning naps from last 10 with a sequence of 1111231211.
Another great days racing at Cheltenham on Wednesday and I was delighted with the NAP Don Poli who stormed clear after the last fence to win the RSA Chase by six lengths.
It was another great day for Irish trained runners with Dermot Weld landing the opener with Windsor Park and Tony Martin landing the incident packed cross country chase with Rivage D’Or.
Eyes down for day three, the feature being the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at 3.20:
1:30 JLT Novices’ Chase (Registered As The Golden Miller Novices’ Chase) (Grade 1) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 8 runners)
A smaller field than usual, perhaps scared away by Vautour. The winner of the Supreme on the opening day last season he has won three of his four races over fences. He was however an expensive flop in the Racing Post Novice Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas when well beaten behind Clarcam. He made a bad mistake at the seventh that day which appeared to be a race stopper. Knowing that he can still make errors might temper enthusiasm about backing him at around 2.78 on the BETDAQ market even though he is the class horse of the race. I thought the Noel Meade trained Apache Stronghold made more interest at around evens on the BETDAQ place market. He beat Valseur Lido in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown last time out.
2:05 Pertemps Network Final (Listed Handicap Hurdle) (5yo+, Class 1, 3m, 23 runners)
The answer maybe lurking at the bottom. The very bottom of the card in the shape of number 24 Edeymi trained by Tony Martin. He was an eye catching fourth at Musselburgh last time out. A two mile winner at Galway on the flat he is still relatively lightly raced over hurdles and could easily be a ‘plot’ horse JUST scraping into the race off bottom weight. He races off the same mark on his he was second in the Fred WInter in 2012 and is a sporting day three nap from me.
2:40 Ryanair Chase (Registered As The Festival Trophy Chase) (Grade 1) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 5f, 14 runners)
Don Cossack looks set to give Michael O’Leary a big chance of winning his own race. He’s on a run of four straight wins but they have all come in small fields and there will be plenty more hustle and bustle here. He fell in the RSA Chase last year and is still prone to the occasional sloppy jump. For me, he is a small place lay at around 2.3.
3:20 Ladbrokes World Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 3m, 17 runners)
It’s hard to recall a more wide open renewal and the best of the Irish contingent looks to be the Sandra Hughes trained Lieutenant Colonel who stayed on well over this trip at Leopardstown to win the Christmas Hurdle. I like his profile in the race and he still looks to be improving. A win and place recommendation.
4:00 Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate (Grade 3 Handicap Chase) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 5f, 23 runners)
Make A Track can only be a small place bet here having pulled up in the Thyestes. Should be suited by the better ground.
4:40 Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Handicap Chase (Amateur Riders) (5yo+, Class 2, 3m 2f, 24 runners)
The Ted Walsh trained Champagne James is recommended win and place in wide open finale (remember there’s a BETDAQ market on the charity race at 5.15pm). Champagne James finished second last time out to Empire Of Dirt at Naas.

1.30 APACHE STRONGHOLD (PLACE)

2.40 DON COSSACK (PLACE LAY)
