WINNING NAP: SHAMROCK’s NAP and only bet ROAD TO RESPECT won at Thurles yesterday at a starting price of 8/11. A DUNDALK NAP tonight.
It was quite hard work for Road To Respect on the heavy ground at Thurles yesterday but he got the job done in the maiden hurdle winning by a length.
At Dundalk tonight just four runners go to post for the Ladbrokes Fast-Track Qualifier Race at 8.00 but it looks an interesting puzzle with the question mark over the favourite Captain Joy who is top-rated but has an absence of 230 days to overcome.
Trainer Tracey Collins quipped “At least he’ll be in the first four! He had a fairly major setback and I didn’t think we’d have time to get him back in time for a qualifier, to be honest. My team have done a great job with him at home and it would be a big relief if he can win this.”
He’s a classy performer who finished third in the Ladbrokes All-Weather Mile Championships Conditions Stakes at Lingfield on Finals Day last season, beaten just two necks behind Grey Mirage and Sovereign Debt and would be hard to beat here if anywhere near his best.
But that’s quite a big ‘if’ for those wanting to get involved at a shade of odds-on.
For me he is likely to need the race to some extent and makes the odds about Political Policy and Bishan Bedi appeal more.
Both are rated only 4lb inferior in any case on official ratings and come here as course and distance winners who are race fit.
There’s a line of course and distance form from December which has Bishan Bedi in front of Political Policy and the Aidan O’Brien trained runner at around 5 on BETDAQ very much looks the value amongst the quartet.
