DUNDALK EVENING ACTION: SHAMROCK heads to the evening card at Dundalk on Friday for his best bet of the day.
No runners from Aidan O’Brien at York on Friday but he is represented at Dundalk and looks to have a sound chance of winning the maiden at 8.35pm with Schubert.
The three-year-old has proved a friend of the layers so far, going off at 7/2, 1/2, 4/5 and 2/1 in his four starts and failing to win.
Given he cost $1.3m as a yearling he’s clearly been a disappointment but this race looks very modest – particularly now that the Ger Lyons trained Mittersill is a non runner.
Schubert went his closest yet at Gowran Park last time out when beaten just a head by Tony The Gent – although the form of that race hasn’t been boosted subsequently.
The Dermot Weld trained Palmetto Dunes looks the danger. He hasn’t been seen since a disappointing 12th of 18 in a York maiden last August. The stable are now in a great form and he is probably a lot better than the York form would suggest, although the O’Brien horse may have a fitness edge.
